The Club
St. James’s Club has a long and distinguished history. It was in 1857 that English aristocrat Earl Granville and Marchese d’Azeglio, a Sardinian Minister, opened the Club for travelling diplomats in St. James’s Street. It quickly attracted an international clientele including Lord Randolph Churchill and Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild.
With the Club committee chaired by Sir John Mills and members that included Liza Minelli, Dudley Moore, Peter Townshend, Sir Michael Caine, Sir Sean Connery, Tim Rice, Michael Parkinson and Lord Attenborough and visits by Sir Elton John as well as Tom Selleck and Christopher Reeve, it is not surprising that it became known as one of London’s most popular Clubs.
Today’s St. James’s continues the traditions established by their predecessors and today’s celebrities are no less impressed with Samuel L. Jackson, Luke Wilson, Alice Cooper, Elle Macpherson, Dita Von Teese, Colin Salmon, Damian Lewis, Helen McCrory, Michael Bolton, Jack Johnson, Katherine Jenkins and Claire Sweeney having visited the Club recently.
Membership of the St. James’s Club means a VIP status that can be enjoyed not just here but also at the reciprocal clubs all over the world. Members also receive preferential room rates and a 10% reduction on all restaurant and bar bills, and 25% reduction on meeting and event room hire.
